It is officially time to leave tourist land for a while and step into some local spots. Summer might be super busy for Disney, but it starts a series of local food events that shouldn’t go unnoticed. If you are a tourist and a foodie, I highly recommend leaving the comforts of your resort area and heading to downtown Orlando for the month of June.
Bite30 is Orlando’s version of restaurant week, but it goes on for 30 days!! Orlando Weekly runs the events associated with Bite30 and they do a phenomenal job! If you haven’t already- I highly suggest following Orlando Weekly on Facebook! Bite30 is a citywide celebration where participating restaurants offer a prix fixe menu at a set price ($15 for lunch and $30 for dinner). I just love the idea of “restaurant- hopping through the city beautiful”! So fun! The line-up for this year is showcasing some of the best local spots and their talented chefs. Orlando’s culinary scene is unique in my opinion, and the chefs here are some of the best. In order to take part in Bite30 your restaurant has to be chosen, so this isn’t just any restaurant wanting to drive traffic- their earned their spot for sure!
This years lineup is pretty exciting, and I am honestly having a hard time deciding which places I am going to checkout. Here is the link for the 2016 line-up: simply click on the restaurant name to see the prix fixe menu. I know I will be sure to checkout The Rusty Spoon, Soco and Rusteak!!! But, if you really can’t decide there is a fabulous solution: Bite Night!!
Bite Night is the concluding party for the Bite30 celebrations. It is always sad when an event like this has to come to an end, but Bite Night surely helps it go out with a bang. I had the privilege in attending last year and it was truly an amazing event! A foodies dream come true- Bite Night transforms the Orchid Garden Ballroom and the atrium of the Ballroom at Church Street into a foodie wonderland!
The price per person is all you can eat and drink (including beer, wine and cocktails), and worth every penny. For my Disney fans- think of it as a pre-paid Food and Wine Festival. Probably the most memorable for this cupcake queen was Blue Bird Bake Shop! So good!! A more detailed review of this adorable bakery will be in a future post!
Bonus- the event’s auction benefits The Edible Schoolyard Orlando. Bite Night will feature small plates of over 20 restaurants and their beloved chefs. It is such an honor to meet some of the chefs that are on this years line-up for Bite Night!
Tickets for Bite Night are on sale now at a lower rate- no word on when prices will go up. So I highly recommend purchasing your tickets now.
